Our history is against us..

Despite being founded 16 years ago Kimera Studios is yet to release a single game. The reasons are many, but now it seems that things are about to change!

In production, World of Football, is a football game where fun is more important than imitating the real sport in every detail. World of Football in part pays homage to the classic football games on Amiga, yet adds new gameplay features and up-to-date graphics. The distinctive cartoon look will enhance the arcade feeling of playing a game rather than watching a real football match on tv.

We have an official site site and a dedicated forum where you can learn more about the game and discuss all the details with us and our numerous friendly forumites, that have also assisted us greatly already. We also have a Developer Diary that we update frequently with movies and information on our progress.

World of Football has had a difficult life-cycle. First plans for the game was made way back when our team first discovered the classic Kick Off on Amiga. With all due respect we couldn't help feeling that this game, while great in its own right, could be bettered in so many ways. We were already labouring with our first big game project back then (Sergei) and so work had to be post-poned.

In 1996 the first steps were taken, 2D sprites and pitch graphics were made, and a working tactic-editor was also produced. But due to outside circumstances the team split up for a short period and the project came to a halt. Roughly six years later we tried again but we couldn't agree on making the project our biggest priority and again it ended there. Finally, in 2003 the project got kickstarted again with a new look based on 3D graphics, but with key team members being in-active a hunt for qualified replacements begun. After a few false starts we finally have a team that we believe can produce a game worthy of our ambitions and or spirit is high!

'Sergei - the showdown' was inspired by movies such as Indiana Jones, Back to the future and West World, and games like Capcom's Black Tiger and Rick Dangerous, and not least a comic called Sergei Wladi. The bad guy was named Boris - for some reason Russian names seemed to go well with the look of the characters. The look of the game was a mix of Western and Sci-Fi movies, we dubbed it 'lo-tech'. I was playing a game called Black Tiger (Capcom) at the local 'Hong Kong' burger joint and in hindsight its obvious how 'inspired' I was by that game - some of the graphic tiles are seemingly identical to the ones in Black Tiger, but I swear I didn't copy them directly - it was all done from memory - and quite well too! =)

Platform: Amiga,
Status: Cancelled,
Year: 1991-1995
Development of the game took a long time and was a result of us all getting an education at the same time as working on the game. This was before we got connected to the internet and we would meet almost every weekend and discuss what to do next. As more and more games were released for the Amiga a lot of feature-creep entered our project. We worked on the game from 1989 to 1995 but not fulltime - and we made a lot of errors, learning the trade the hard way.

We realised the game wasn't going to be finished and was starting to look dated also - but we did send a copy to a publisher called Renegade, that had published games by Bitmap Brothers and Sensible Software. We never heard from them and maybe I'm seeing things that isn't there but I have an idea that they at least liked some of our stuff - the highscore screen in 'Cannonfodder' looks suspciously like our highscore screen in Sergei - look below and judge for yourself..

We also sent a release of the unfinished game to Funcom in Oslo, Norway, using it as an application for a job. Initially we were denied but not long after Jon and I went to live in Norway working at Funcom - sadly the company already had three sound guys employed, but some years later Jon, Simon and I would work together again at Io Interactive.
